Moving and frighteningly real.

Emotionally and viscerally compelling and retains a suspenseful, edge-of-the-seat quality.

The film belongs to Jolie. She won an Oscar for 1999's "Girl, Interrupted," but this is by far her best performance.

What is best about A Mighty Heart is that it doesn't reduce the Daniel Pearl story to a plot, but elevates it to a tragedy. A tragedy that illuminates and grieves for the hatred that runs loose in our world, hatred as a mad dog that attacks everyone. Attacks them for what seems, to the dog, the best of reasons.

Effectively fashioned, as jolting as it is polished, as well as a surprising, insistently political work of commercial art.

The film's point of view is inevitably that of an outsider, which Danny Pearl was, and menace is the essence of this shattering story, which has been told with skill and urgent conviction. A Mighty Heart makes the terms of the terrorist threat palpable.

Jolie simply exercises Mariane's persistent will, and honors her in the process.

The film is fascinating and at times disturbing, but Winterbottom's arms-length style mutes any emotional impact.

A taut, meticulously crafted police procedural.

In his first studio venture, Michael Winterbottom coaxes forth a staggering wealth of detail from this terse, methodical account of Pearl's kidnapping and murder in Pakistan.

This is one of those roles where casting can't help but trump acting. Like Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra, Angelina Jolie IS Mariane Pearl--and that marquee-size "is" gets in the way, not of her performance, but of our ability to suspend disbelief and watch it.

Despite the best of intentions, an actress who makes her own headlines gets in the way of the big picture.

I almost wish A Mighty Heart were about the Captain, and I'd bet director Michael Winterbottom does, too. The character contains all the contradictory impulses of this region of the world that the West tries and miserably fails to boil down to black and white.

Good Story Made boring in a film

"I thought the movie was very low budget and boring. I was fascinated by the story, but kept asking myself, "when is the action going to kick in? ". I noticed they used Pakistani's to do most of the acting. While that is how they are in real life, I'd much rather have had professionals doing the acting. Maybe that's why it drug on like a low budget documentary ...... I was disappointed."

Rob Zombie sucks

"This remake was horrible. John Carpenter should never have given permission to that shock rock freak of a man Zombie to redo his masterpiece. All Zombie knows is blood and gore. He doesnt know acting because none of the actors could act. The girl that played Laurie Strode su Trust me. Go and watch the original one. It is much better."

Everyone MISSED the point.

"We went to see A Mighty Heart, not really knowing what it was about as we went on a Premier night... WE BOTH LOVED IT...found it to be incredibly compelling and thought Jolie, and I am not necessarily a fan, did a Oscar worthy performance. We are both sadden that this movie was not widely received, we feel that perhaps folks are missing the point. I personally find Biopics and movies based on reality much more entertaining and enjoyable then the nonsensical juck like Pirates, Transformers, Potter, etc...which we would never spend money on or watch for free for that matter...so if you enjoy a more realistic intense movie, then see this...if you just want to laugh and have a fun time then see Evan Almighty which also was very enjoyable in a different way."

Angelina For Best Actress Hands Down

"This movie is not about ENTERTAINING the audience. People should be aware that this is a true story. That it's main purpose is to show the people what really happened. It's very much like a documentary. Angelina Jolie was unbelievable. Best she's acted since Girl Interrupted. I almost forgot i was watching her and not Mariene Pearl. A bittersweet movie. Not entertaining but very touching. I loved it."

more stories should be told

"It was painful to watch. I remember Danny pearl and what he went through, it was horrible.I prayed for him. More of us need to realize what really goes on and quit hiding our heads in the sand. Bad reviews about Angelina are crazy!! Shes awesome. If all of us would just quit whining and try to make a difference like she has, what a better world this would be."

Boring

"Went and saw this movie thinking it would be the best movie to come out in awhile since spider and pirates were real bad sequels so was hoping for something good this summer. Was I wrong this was pure boredom with a plot that nobody really cared about I kept nodding off it was so boring don't waste your money, the summer movies are looking really gloomy."
