ReelViews | James Berardinelli

The ideas underlying Aeon Flux's plot are the film's strength, and the filmmakers deserve some credit for doing more than paying lip service to them.

Aeon Flux is not that terrible. It's certainly more fun than a lot of films that get lovingly showcased.

Theron is an arresting image, but, like everything else in Aeon Flux, she's stranded in a trashy and derivative glum zone of fashion-runway fascism.

With the exception of a few enjoyable action scenes, such as when Aeon and fellow operative Sithandra (Sophie Okonedo) flip and backflip their way across a lethal garden of bullet-spewing trees and spikes disguised as blades of grass, Aeon Flux is surprisingly draggy.

It's a movie best appreciated for the costumes, the sets and Ms. Theron's haughty athleticism.

The future looks alternately grim and hysterical in Aeon Flux, a spectacularly silly sci-fier that plays like "The Matrix" crossed with "The Island" and reinterpreted as a long-lost Michael Jackson video.

Smultaneously silly, ostentatious and terribly boring.

It's hard to sit all the way through Aeon Flux while fully awake.

Aeon Flux is the sophomore picture from Karyn Kusama, who's first movie was a modest boxing film called "Girlfight." Here she's in over her head. The movie's sexual and scientific ideas never come through, and the characters would be fun only if they came with a joystick.

If Aeon Flux is what Charlize Theron does to pay the bills while otherwise being engaged in "Monster" and "North Country," it's probably a reasonable price to pay. For her.|For us? No, no, no.

it's no V

"V was an acceptable entertaining film. this one is less than that. charlize is still pretty but still too soft for the role. watch the aeon flux animated series if you haven't!"

Aeon would be proud

"I faithfully watched the original short on MTV's Liquid Television and was super excited to see it come to life on the big screen. However, I only saw it on DVD, partly because I believed it would be a flop and not live up to the animated series. I was wrong. Charlize Theron really became Aeon Flux in movement and speach. She got all the eye movements. And the on-location and sets were something out of Myst. It seems the movie version of Aeon Flux was an extention and side companion to the animated short. I loved it and would recommend it to anyone who loved the short and actually understood it at heart."

not too bad

"i heard a lot of bad reviews about this movie and when i saw it, i just didn't understand any of it. It was a decent movie, good acting, and a plot that made you watch the movie to understand. No one writes movies like that. It was an interesting film and anyone who says different needs to just stop talking."

Terrific sci-fi movie with story line...

"This is a very good sci-fi movie with a story line and plot. No nonsense acting with good martial arts fight action scenes involving my FAV skin tight Charlize Theron... the gal got a body and with acting skills all guys want in their beds. Good cast of characters with no stereo type acting. Charlize Theron made the movie that much better as the main character involving cloning issues. Must rent or buy sci-fi flick and worth the money DVD. Love the cat fight scenes involving the women casts. Decent understandable language with no vulgaity. Great special effect too! A must see high end sci-fi. A 5 stars rating in my book."

"The first time I saw Aeon Flux I was confused. I had to watch it again to get it,also my mom had to explain it to me"

What?!?

"This movie, in my opinion, has some of the most random twists and turns imaginable. They are not the type that "keep you guessing" or give a movie that surprising ending that everyone loves. It is just the type of thing that confuses the crap out of everyone in the theater. The movie starts with such a poor introduction to the theme and subject, and just as abruptly as it started, the film is over, leaving the audience with many unanswered questions. The plot has no real direction to it and I am amazed that it actually made it to theaters."

HATE IT!

"I just saw the movie two days ago, and I use the word "saw" very generously because sitting through that movie was almost as bad as sitting through Van Helsing. I'm one of those people who will never walk out of a movie because I always feel that I should see the movie in its entirity before making my opinon, but Aeon Flux was just about the closest that I've come to walking out. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm just spoiled by good science fiction movies."
