USA Today | Claudia Puig

Will not be for everyone, but it works if you surrender to its lilting and unabashedly sentimental tale of evocative music and visual poetry.

I'd rather August Rush went the whole way than just be lukewarm about it. Yes, some older viewers will groan, but I think up to a certain age, kids will buy it, and in imagining their response, I enjoyed my own.

The Hollywood Reporter | Kirk Honeycutt

The story is about musicians and how music connects people, so the movie's score and songs, created by composers Mark Mancina and Hans Zimmer, give poetic whimsy to an implausible tale.

Only auds immune to diabetic rushes should head for August Rush, though tolerant parents wanting wholesome entertainment for the kids will like it for its repetitive encouragement of creativity.

Feels like the cinematic equivalent of being stuffed with fruitcake and doused with a gallon of egg nog, so if that's the sort of thing you go in for around the holidays . . .

To describe August Rush as a piece of shameless hokum doesn?t quite do justice to the potentially shock-inducing sugar content of this contemporary fairy tale.

The Hollywood version of one of those fawning "60 Minutes" segments about musical prodigies. For most of it, I could hear the congested awe of Morley Safer.

Simultaneously swooningly romantic and transcendently idiotic.

Robin Williams (yes, I'm afraid so) plays a kind of Manhattan-based Fagin with a touch of Midnight Cowboy to his wardrobe. And ants will play havoc in any cynic's pants as this loopy, goopy fairy tale about a kid looking for his parents oozes to its predictable finish.

Intended as a fuzzy family fable, "August" plays more to the gag reflex than to the heart, especially when our little orphan starts playing the guitar like a virtuoso after what seems like a three-minute tutorial.

An inane musical melodrama.

August Rush isn't just a bad movie - it's an aggressively bad movie.

THE BEST MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN!

"Some people say it's a modern fantasy. Some people say this movie is unrealistic...but in my opinion, this movie is the best movie to show that miracles DO happen and God is running the world."

August Rush

"I thought it was bit of a take off on Oliver Twist but instead of pick pockets they earned money in the streets using there music talents still run by a leader as in Robin Williams as your bad guy! I liked it enough that it should of been in final 5 for best picture! It was also a good romance for his parents! 5 stars Excellant!"

August Rush - should have been Academy Awards

"As usual the critics were completely wrong. My boyfriend and I absolutely loved this movie. You fall in love with August Rush, the music is fabulous, it pulls at every heart string. Beautiful movie for all ages and families to watch together. I was so taken that I had to watch it over again immediately. It's been ages since a movie has made me feel so good. If you want to be uplifted and taken on a beautiful journey then this is the movie for you."

August rush Was the best Movie to see

"I suppose the critics are used to vulgar language. Sex you can see and blood and gore in order to like a movie when I watched this movie from begining to end it drew me in and I really loved the purnes of the movie do I think it was right to have love at first sight no I dont but stuff happened do I think its right for a child to be forged into a foster home no I dont but how many rich people did this to their children back in the day and still do this? do i think she would have beeenable to find him so quickly in the real world mabey and mabey not but the movie was terrific even though it had thses flaws."

Outstanding!

"Over the years I've become tired of the garbage on the screen, excessive violence, oversexed, filled with greed and money loving under and overtones. August Rush resurrects wholesomeness in films, and is a pleasant surprise for me as I passed it up numerous times, finally watching and continue to watch over and over. Genuinely inspirational, this film will captivate you and your family and give all of them that warm fuzzy feeling inside. If you don't like being uplifted and can't handle feeling good inside, don't rent it or buy it.. smoothjazztampabay.com"

We loved this Movie!

"My wife and I both loved this, think it's one of the all time best feel good movies and will add it to our collection, a definite keeper. Music fills our hearts, minds and soul...it's like a connective tissue and this movie points that out. Sure, it's a bit predictable, somewhat sappy, but we love it. I'm amazed we had not heard much advertising about it. I think it needs and oscar! Really!"
