It may not have been what the producers had in mind, but they asked for a Paul Schrader movie, and that's exactly what he delivered.
Read the full reviewInstead of cheap thrills, Schrader gives us a frightening vision of a good priest who fears goodness may not be enough.
Read the full reviewIt's a good, thoughtful horror picture--and thiiis close to being a very good one.
Read the full reviewResult is hardly a diabolical failure, if not quite a heavenly masterpiece. Schrader's intelligent, quietly subversive pic emphasizes spiritual agony over horror ecstasy, while paying occasional lip-service to the need for scares.
Read the full reviewSchrader, in Auto Focus, displayed a devious sense of sin, but in Dominion the Calvinist schoolboy in him insists on trumping sin with guilt.
Read the full reviewAwfully dull, with scant evidence of the sort of things that make horror movies attractive -- like mounting suspense and spine-tingling creepiness and, oh yeah, the element of horror.
Read the full reviewThere's no escaping that "Dominion" is finally an act of commercial scavenging. You may retrieve the eggshells, coffee grounds and banana peels from your trash and assemble them into a cute, novelty gift basket. But if you bend down and take a whiff, your nose is still met with the scent of garbage.
Read the full reviewDevoid of thrills, and with nothing even vaguely frightening to distract moviegoers, it becomes clear that the story wasn't worth telling in the first place.

BORING!
"This movie is very talky, with few scares. Its not terrible, but I can see why they gave it to another director to do it over. The original "Exorsist: The beginning" is much scarier and violent, which is what most of us want in a horror movie. Don't bother seeing this one inless its free!"
I paid way too much to see this movie!
"What a great director, take an hour of filming from your last movie and then ad 2 more hours of bland movie footage. This must have cost an extra $5 to make as they just changed 2 characters and well...wait till it comes out on pay per view, they hav .50 specials sometimes. The review we read said it kept him on the edge of his seat - ya to get out of the move theatre."
An improvement
"The charactor development here is engaging and the dialog thought provoking. This and the added facts of the thankful removal of Demons in ridiculous makeup plus a pro-God victorious ending, make this movie 2nd to the original, the best in the Exorcist series."
Worst by far of the series
"This movie was terrible. It is visually horrific and the marketing brains should get all the credit. This movie had horrible special effects. The blistering skin was horrendously done as well as the hiennas/dogs were visually terrible as good as maybe an average video game. The cows eating them were even worse. The story was slow, with terrible acting that made this movie drag on and on, almost as long as this review that I gave already more effort then the directing of this movie. This shouldn't have even made it out of the post production floor. Final word, HORRIBLE."
one more time
"i have a movie and it's called exorcist the benginning.the dominion sounds a lot like it"
