Latifah coasts on grit and verve, and Holmes has a goggle-eyed sweetness, but it's Keaton who rules.

This is the feistiest Hollywood movie about American women and their thankless jobs since "9 to 5."

Moviegoers will come up empty with Mad Money. This lifeless comedy and uninventive caper feels as if it were cobbled together at a studio's obligatory consciousness-raising diversity seminar.

A caper comedy with some definite problems.

Mad Money is a comedy caper where the caper's not interesting and the comedy's not funny.

In the breezy, amoral heist comedy Mad Money, ?Fun With Dick and Jane? meets ?9 to 5? on the way to recession.

Keaton and Ted Danson, who plays her husband, Don, are the comedic bright spot in the movie, not least because they are ridiculous.

Possesses its share of modest laughs, many of them delivered by Ted Danson as Bridget's bemused husband. But director Callie Khouri (best known for writing "Thelma & Louise") doesn't bring the dash needed to make this a comic heist on a par with "Ocean's Eleven."

As a comedy, it relies on Keaton and Latifah playing the same characters they always play, and Holmes overcompensating by switching into bug-eyed manic-comedienne mode. Her performance is part Lucille Ball, part overcaffeinated chicken, and it deserves some credit for daring, but none for execution.

If the movie gets by, as it surely will during the current entertainment drought, most of the credit should go to a couple of performers (Latifah/Keaton) who come from different traditions, yet share a gift for breathing life into moribund material.

Improbable and generally unfunny comedy.

Banking on the appealing chemistry of Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah -- with co-star Katie Holmes awkwardly upsetting the balance -- this strained heist comedy about three cash-strapped femmes is watchable enough for a few reels, but lacks the requisite wit and amoral energy to capitalize on its get-rich-quick premise.

Chicago Sun-Times | Roger Ebert

Mad Money is astonishingly casual for a movie about three service workers who steal millions from a Federal Reserve Bank. There is little suspense, no true danger; their plan is simple, the complications are few, and they don't get excited much beyond some high-fives and hugs and giggles.

Loved this Movie

"I don't know what ya'll were watching, but I had a great time seeing this movie. My friends and I laughed out loud through most of it. It was not totally predictable, the ending was clever and funny. Perhaps with the economy in this country suffering due in large part to our current administration's policies of Tax credits for the wealthy, while the middle class (soon to be paupers) are really struggling, allowing jobs to be shipped overseas, Big Oil gauging the American public, home foreclosures, funding this stupid war, I found a bit of relief in getting one over on the Federal Reserve. Go see this movie! All 3 gals were wonderful and Ted Danson was delightful."

so so funny

"i thought that this movie was so so funny. the ladies and the queen were terrific. and ted danson was tremendous. if you are not doing any thing this weekend see it, even if you do not see it at matinee prices you will still feel that you got your money's worth!"

See something else!

"20 minutes into this movie, I was very tempted to slip out and go see 27 Dresses! It's very lame. Diane Keaton was the worst possible choice. Ted Danson's acting was even worse than in "3 Men and a Baby" (if that's possible). They're planning this big federal bank heist in restaurants and public restrooms, careless about who's listening or who's in a stall. Lame premise, lame acting, lame everything. Go see The Bucket List. I highly recommend that one!"

Better Then The Critics Said

"I think it is time for the critics to go on vacation.... I went to see Mad Money with four of my friends ages 25 ro 70 and all of us liked this movie. Dianne Keaton and Ted Danza were wonderful..The Queen we always enjoy and Katie surprised all of us by her comedy. True she acts alittle over the top but her character was suppose to be alittle flaky. Any way we all enjoyed it....do NOT believe the critics on this one although the older audience will probably laugh harder."

Fun Afternoon

"Really enjoyed the movie...no sex scenes, only one swear word(I use it myself, when things go wrong)A group of 12 Retirement Home residents were there with walkers and wheelchairs and left laughing and talking about how much they enjoyed the movieThe ladies all played their roles well and Ted Danson was perfect as Diane's" husband"

"a ten!!! out of a hundred!!!almost walked out in the middle, but my 9 oclock engagement fell thru, so i figured what the hell, it's either this or go home and watch office space for the fiftieth time. plus, i wasn't finished with the kettlecorn. on hindsight, i made the wrong choice. to give the movie credit, it was a tad better in the second half."
