AMAZING!
"i absolutely loved it.i honestly don't see why everyone is being so harsh.i was honestly scared to see it, but i'm REALLY glad that i did"
Better than critics' reviews
"The acting job by all the characters was good, including the poop-throwing chimpanzee. Very confusing in the beginning, but as it progressed it turned into a decent film"
QUITE POSSIBLY THE WORST MOVIE OF THE DECADE
"Mind-numbingly awful with a grotesque NASCAR-mentality that doesn't even attempt emotions real or fantasy-based... just a big, overblown grunt of a movie that feels like it was the result of the sound John Goodman makes whenever his "character" is upset at something... saw it with a whole row-full of friends at the MAX theater and every one of us were deeply offended by it. It doesn't even seem to mind that it's view of "the future" or this fantasy world it presents is so horribly ugly and mean and desperately bleak."
Speed Racer quite possibly best movie of the year!!!!
"This movie has everything any movie wants, and needs, to be a hit. Action, amazing graphics, amazing sound, comic relief, the list can go on and on. Those crazy Wachowski Brothers took a gamble on an already major hit, tried to improve on it, and left with one of the best remakes of any movie ive seen in my life. GO SEE THIS MOVIE NOW! STOP READING THIS REVIEW AND DRIVE TO THE THEATER, SIT DOWN, AND JUST WATCH IT AND ENJOY!"
HOT, FAST AND FUNNY
"I took our 10.9 year old Granddaughter to this cool flick and we both enjoyed it. She learned a good movie lesson on "good and evil". We love the cars. The racing scenes are so intense they can be hard to follow. I agree that the adult language was not necessary. Considering the plot the violence was inevitable, almost leaning towards a PG-13 rating. Good performances, overall including Chim Chim. The principal female characters are HOT! It will be in our library. I smell a sequel....."
NOT A KID FRIENDLY FILM - CUSSING GALORE
"Being a PG film and not a PG-13 film I thought it'd be ok to take my brothers kids to see it. They are 12 and 9 years old. In the movie they say the S word 4 times, the A word 9 times, one kid flips off an adult (essentially the F Word), they say a few others like God **** and they bleep out one time when he say's F out loud, but you can read his mouth.I can not believe this film got a PG rating....I left mad. I would not have exposed them to this kind of language...I'm no religious freak, but that much cuss words for a film that is rated for kids under 12 is not right. This should be a pg-13 film."
What a pleasant surprise
"First of all, I have not been surprised in a POSITIVE manner by a movie to this extent since the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and before that I can't even remember the last time. It was SO TRUE to the cartoon I felt like crying SEVERAL times in the movie remembering my childhood. Saw it at the IMAX in Los Angeles...and let me say this...I almost couldn't even HANDLE IT it was so incredible. I have noticed a trend, the old boring lame critics, and the perpetually incorrect Rotten Tomatoes.com all rated this movie poorly, yet I have not found a single person that I know who did not at the LEAST like the movie, and most loved. Classic example of a wildly over-achieving film and cast. It had everything, love, family, courage, strength, perseverance, and a PERFECT amount of comic relief from Chim Chim and the younger brother. When Chim Chim pulls out the wrench and smacks the guy accross the face, I was literally ROLLING on the floor with two of my friends, after I got over the initial shock at such an ingenious sequence...not since the ORIGINAL Pink Panthers have I seen better and funnier fight scenes. I encourage ALL to see this"
Too long, but fun enough for old fans
"A great film for the family with older kids, 11up, loaded with winks and nods to the fans of the classic TV cartoon. Hearing the jump sound fx made me feel as if I was a little girl again. Special effects were spectacular and I laughed again and again at the campy moments throughout yet it didn't cross into being a parody. However, it was way too long. The beginning was poor, it lost its way at times and after a while you just didn't care what happened with the villains. But - I still found it rather entertaining ... for me, a low B"
2 THUMBS UP ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"This movie was very enjoyable. I would recomend this movie to anyone, especially if you loved the show. This movie was defenitly not a let down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Let the Critics rip it apart...the Audience LOVED IT!!!!
"I've been going to the movies my entire life...for the last 45 years...and...the Wachowski Brothers have done it again! Where they succeeded in making the Matrix movies, and blowing the doors off sci-fi movies with them, they have done the same for Speed Racer. I went into it not expecting much...in spite of the rep of the Wachowski's.... but was completely blown away before the movie even really started...it was wonderfully mind-blowing. One of the best movies I have ever seen in my life...I'm a big fan of live action/animation combos, and the incredibly vibrant colors used... 3 words..Amazing, AMAZing, AMAZING!!!!Thank you Wachowski's for another great film! I can't wait to see what you do next..."
Speed Racer was suprisingly great!!!
"After all of the bad press, I thought that Speed Racer was going to be awful but my son wanted to go so my entire family went - the four of us. Everyone loved it and thought it was highly enjoyable. As a matter of fact the Crystal Skull was not as enjoyable as this film. I did not understand the bad reviews. Susan Sarandon, John Goodman, Emile Hirsch,Christina Ricci, and Matthew Fox are all really excellently cast. The littlest boy and his monkey are hilarious and really fun. The whole movie really accomplished what is should have based on the cartoon. It was really a wild ride and even though I am not young, I really enjoyed watching wide-eyed throughout. The kids in the theatre were laughing out loud and the speeding cars were really incredible along with all of the different locations that were used. So the races were in Bali, or through the desert, etc. Also, the story is perfect for everyone. It talks about being disappointed by others bad behavior and how you should not cave in to the easy way out but stay family oriented and do what is right. The whole thing has a great message for families and all the little kids loved it along with the big kids ( adults )."
Non stop action - a little campy n cheesy but it was alot of fun.
"I fondly remember watching speed racer as a 6 year old 40 years ago. I never missed an episode. I Just got back from taking my 8, 10 and 17 y/o sons to see it. If you were a fan of the original series as I was you can appreciate a lot of the special effects, the slightly campy and cheesy plot, but hey... We're talking the MACH 5 here folks... Not your average race car. The rating was appropriate for this movie PG, but a PG-13 would have been more appropriate. With about 30 seconds of editing it could have been G rated. But this is the movie industry today. The few curses and one or two overly violent scenes could have been cut with little impact to the film. I would not recommend this movie for any child under age eight, IMHO, because of these scenes.I read the highly critical reviews of the "critics" and was truly appalled at the severe criticism written about this film. Apart from the above it kept us on our seats, had the crowd cheering and hooting and hollering... "GO SPEED GO!" half the time.I would ignore the critics, parents, unless your a "Puritan" in terms of movie ethics this is really great movie to see with your older children. The movie teaches a few lessons in ethics and morality. Bad guys DO LOSE and good guys DO finish first. The concept of FAMILY is important, not money, greed or power. and - never eat too much candy! :-)My rating a 90 out of 100 ..."
Great Fun!
"LOVED IT!This interpretation was everything I could have hoped for and more! Packed with fun, action, great FX that mirror the anime style of the time - very cool! The movie didn't drag for a moment; I recognized every character from the original - and even their behaviors"
aRE YOU PEOPLE CRAZY THAT MOVIE ROCKED!!!!!
"IT WAS ACTION PACKED AND FILLED WITH LOTS OF LAUGHS! NOW I KNOW ALL YOUR KIDS LOVED THE LITTLE BOY AND MONKEY IN THE MOVIE. ASK THEM!!I CRYED AND LAUGHED AND EVERY TIME HE WAS DRIVING, I FELT LIKE JUMPING OUT OF MY SEAT SAYING "GO SPEED RACER GO!!!!!" PLUS I DON'T REMEMBER THEM SAYING A LOT OF CUSE WORDS YOU PEOPLE ARE CRAZY SAYING THAT IT IS NOT FOR KIDS. EVEN IF IT WAS PG-13 I WOULD STILL TAKE MY KIDS."

AMAZING MOVIE
"this movie was awesome from beginning to end, hands down!"
First Of All.....
"Dont get at ma boo Emile Hirsch-he was hella sexy as Speed. Second of all, yall need to shut da f*** up about the whole cussin thing. Sure you may have kids, but what kid dont you know by now that doesnt have some kind of innapropriate behavior. The movie is not encouraging them to swear and fight, the movie was encouraging teamwork. Evidently you need to work on your parenting skills if you're nervous about taking your 8 year old to see it. I mean , my god... thats the real world, you cant shield them from stuff like that forever... i wanna be sure they probably hear far more worst s*** on the playground. Dont get mad at da movie, or da wachowski bros. they makin a movie for your entertainment- so f***** grow up!!!oh yeah........GO eMILe Baby GO!!!!!!!"
Great fun!
"I almost didn't go to see this based on all the bad reviews...but WOW! I'm glad I did. As a great fan when I was a kid, I really appreciated how much this film honored the original series. It was great to see all the characters back and the casting and dialogue was spot on. I took 7 year old kids and we all were riveted to the screen during all the race scenes. It was a little long--I thought there would be two big races rather than three--but held the kids attention throughout. As for the appropriateness, I didn't see much of anything that would give me pause as a mom except the brief flash of a middle finger (to which I promptly told my kids that they were never ever to use that gesture because it was really rude) but even that was flashed so quickly that I don't even think that they really caught on to which finger was used. Unless i was in the bathroom during any "violent" scenes, I didn't see anything other than slapstick-type fights. The movie is a cartoon after all. It IS over the top, cartoonish, hyper and lots of all that--but so was the original series. There are some great values--loyalty, teamwork, persistence, doing what's right not the most lucrative, and lots of love and unity within the Racer family. Family, love, loyalty, and doing the right thing wins over cheating, dishonesty, corruption and greed. What's to argue with that???I'm a 40something mom of little kids and I loved it. If you go expecting a wild ride, videogame/cartoon angles and thrills, you won't be disappointed."
Repeat: Not for kids!
"PG rating? SPOILERS AHEAD: I took my two granddaughters, ages 3 and 7, to see this film, and I'm sorry I did. A scene with a savage, bloody beating ends with a young driver about to be placed in a tank filled with voracious piranha fish. Then, when one of the bad guys is forced to block a bullet hole in the aquarium with his finger and the piranha gobble his finger, he screams and the water in the tank turns red, I walked out with my granddaughters and received free replacement tickets from the manager. I'll review films a little more carefully from now on before taking impressionable young children to see PG-rated so-called kid's movies."
This is NOT for kids.
"I took my 2 kids, 11 yo girl and 7 yo boy. The description said "Family Friendly" but this movie was NOT.The words "a*s" and "h*ll" were used more than once, there was a very violent scene where a man was beaten until he was bloody and another man had his finger eaten by piranah. When a character in the movie flipped off another, we walked out. I fully expected the movie to get better and it did NOT. I don't ever want to have to apologize to my kids again for taking them to the movies. NOT FOR KIDS."
Don't let short sighted critics kill a fun movie!
"I went to see Speed Racer with a group ranging in age from 9 to 43, and we all had a great time with the tongue-in-cheek action this flick takes directly out of its anime predecessor. Plenty of laughs, don't let anybody tell you that this movie is "nothing like the cartoon", as one local critic put it. Almost every character in the movie can be traced back to the '60's counterpart, and the live actors in their roles are savvy enough to hit the personalities dead on their marks. None of this merits an Oscar, nor does any other part of the movie (except perhaps costumes). In fact, all the glitz and flash of the computer-generated surroundings actually attracts attention away from a decent story that is more character-driven than most anime, even the original. I believe this over-the-top animation around our motion-captured heroes fuels critics' revulsion. In short, this is the perfect movie to take the whole family out to start the summer blockbuster season, perhaps just the matinee. (4 of 5 stars)"
HORRIBLE!!! SHOULD BE PG-13!!!!!!
"I have 3 boys- 2 8 yr. olds and a 5 yr. old who have been waiting for this movie....we got up and left after 70 minutes because the word a** was used 4 times, damn and hell were used and violence was physical and semi bloody and scary, and the young boy in the film flipped the bird to someone!!!! I was appalled- and furious!!! They have marketed this film to YOUNG kids all this time and there was NO reason for these scenes in the movie. A PG rating is simply inappropriate for this film....it's sad what is happening to our society...trying to raise good kids with good manners is next to impossible! Don't take kids at least under 10!"
speed racer
"we felt this movie isnt good for kids example fighting, foul languange and guns very bad for little kids would not suggest taking young children to view movie"
speed racer
"watching this was the 135 minutes of my life! i was on the very edge of my the whole time! every time the races would get exciting i would find myself chanting go, speed ,go!!"
Amazing visceral experience
"I went and saw it twice this weekend. Easily one of the most visually beautiful movies ever made. i don't think any movie before this one has given me more goosebump moments. It has a positive family message, beautifully paced and edited race sequences, it's faithful to the cartoon and the original characters, and just takes the audience on a wild, non stop ride.I enjoyed this far more than the underwhelming Ironman. I will probably see it a third time before it leaves theaters."
Speed Racer=AWESOME
"Oh man I went to see this movie Friday, the day it came out, and I loved it! I went in thinking, "This is going to be a really cheezy immitation." But it wasn't! I was on the edge of my seat for the final race and the action was fantastic! I recommend this movie for anybody! I always seem to go against the critics. I'm glad I never listen to them cause this movie was amazingly cool!"
Way to go Speed Racer!
"One of the best movies Ever! We, as a family (ages, 8, 13, 16, 34, and 36), saw this movie for Mother's Day and not one of us was disappointed. Sure we all had different tastes and going into it we were not all excited (to say the least) about seeing the movie but it really had something for everyone to enjoy. It had mindblowing effects to keep the younger and videogame loving crowd interested, a complicated, soap like storyline and fairly cute younger cast to hold the attention of teenagers (mainly girls...lol), and stayed close enough to the orginial cartoon that the older crowd could get into it. The acting was also very good. They did have to use the willing suspention of disbeleife but they did it exceptionaly well. Kudos to the Entire cast! This movie will most certainly be added to our dvd collection on the day of it's release! However there were a few curse words (somewhere between three and six), violence, and there was an uncalled for sign. Curse words such as were used, though, could be heard just as easliy on daytime or primetime telly, violence is shown in nearly all genres, and the sign is made very quickly (perhaps in an effort to keep younger children from noticing it?). All in all what was shown could just have easliy been seen by younger crowds while watching something else on the telly."
Like Dali not on Acid
"OK this is one strange movie........Cmon, its Speed Racer, Its got to be a little cheesy, its has to have some bad acting, and chim chim, well, the monkey speaks for itself. To Start, Who was the casting director? And who wrote the script? And finally, it was just to to long...for me and the little twelve year olds sitting around me. A flashback that should have been five minutes ends up like twenty five minutes, a plot line so thin john goodman looked skinny in, and Mathew Fox from lost looking quite lost as Rex, Speed Racers brother. But it was visually out of sight....man those race scenes were quite trippy, trails and all. A third of the way through, and it finally started to gel,and it felt like the Real Speed Racer I watched when I was a kid. But scenes with Either John Goodman or Susan Serandeon just killed all action or any reality that this movie was trying to get across. A very strange strange movie from the wachowski brothers...swearing in a PG Movie? In my exact words, it was like tripping out and staring at a Dali Picture for two hours...what the *^)_)!! was that???????????"
