"i THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THE MOVIE, "THE REAT DEBATORS' IN MAY OF THIS YEAR, I WILL WILL BE CELEBRATING MY GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY FROM BENNETT COLLEGE FOR WOMEN, LOCATED IN GREENBORO, NORTH CAROLINA.MY ENGLISH PROFESSOR, DR. HOBART JARRETT, WAS A GRADUATE OF WILEY COLLEGE AND TAUGHT ENGLISH DURING MY YEARS AT BENNETT (1954-58). I AM TOLD THAT HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE DEBATE TEAM AT WILEY COLLEGE. I PLAN TO DO SOME FURTHER RESEARCH ON THIS BUT IF YOU CAN CONFIRM/DENY THIS, I WOULD BE FOREVER GRATEFUL. THIS WILL ALSO ENABLE BE TO WRITE A FANTASTIC REVIEW. THE MOVIE WAS SIMPLY FANTASTIC.I ALSO DABBLED IN THE ARTS WHILE AT BENNETT AND WAS A PRETTY GOOD ACTOR -- AT 72 YEARS OLD, I THINK I STILL AM!"
The Great Debaters - A MUST SEE FILM!
""The Power of Spoken Words" Excellent movie! Denzel and Forest Whitaker were superb.This film also gets five stars. As an NYS Title One Reading educator the power of education and word came to life a brillant story.Wow! extremely well done depiction of a very hateful period of segregation and total racism in our country.A great movie to show in school for black history week in February . Surely The Academy has forgotten how to choose exceptionally good pictures anymore.Yes, the file is ultimately an uplifting movie because it is about triumph."

REVIEWS FOR ADULT WOMEN
"The movie was not a good as I had hoped. Densel, of course, was good and the story line was good but the movie just didn't get there. Would have been good for a DVD. I have seen Densel in better roles. Great insite to that period of time and that was truly believeable. But the movie just didn't get there for me."
Fulfilling our responsibilities
"Although this movie tells an important story in African-American history, it's greater message is that each of us has the right and the duty to speak out against oppression. It clearly makes the point that our Constitution is about individual rights and responsibilities. If we don't know our rights and speak up for them when it's time to do so, we may lose them, no matter which group we're part of."

"An intelligent, inspiring and exceptional piece of work. Once again Denzel Washington has beautifully portrayed, both as an actor and director, this historical account of a talented debate team at a Black college in Texas in the 1930's. The entire cast was outstanding. It is by far, one of the greatest films I have ever seen. I would encourage everyone to see it. Absolutely classic in style and content. I give it 5 Stars(*****)......"

"This is one of the best movies that I've ever seen and that's saying a lot because I go to at least 70-80 movies every year. I don't understand why it's not drawing in more viewers. I think that everybody should see it. It's a great eye opener for people of all colors and all ages. I have a lot of respect for the 15 year old who wrote such an intelligent review. I'm 44 and I can't add anything else to what she already said. Please go see it!"

"While watching this film to say I was moved is an understatement. i found myself tearing up over the debaters victories. I came home to read the reviews to see if the "professionals" agreed with my passionate love for the movie. I came home to realize they didn't. The average movie review number out of 100 was 72. I started to cry. How can people honestly say that after seeing this movie they didn't feel something? I turned to my brother before reading the reviews and said "who ever gave this movie lower than an 80 must not have a heart." And i'm crushed to see that there are so many heartless people in our society. The fact that critiques can overlook the timeless story of overcoming an obstacle such as racism that has been torturing families for decades and claim that the movie will obviously "make easy sells" is absurd. It's sad that we live in a time where there is no original story anymore (for example there are 6 billion remakes of Cinderella). But there is method in repeating the same timeless classics. They teach us the morals and inspiration that we need to create change. Because people forget so easily that change doesn't happen over night. But movies like The Great Debaters remind us that awareness, education, voice, persistence and the desire to resist laws that are unjust and morally wrong are not just relevant but necessary. I know how the world works. Yet i am ignorant. But it's movies like this that make me aware and bright enough to know to the extent my ignorance reaches. Aside from acting and aside from the names and aside from all the commercialism that surrounds this film, the story is one of great importance and one i personally think should be talked about. I oppose most of what the professional critics say but in our "wonderful" country of America we are able to voice our opinion even if it's the wrong one. i am 15."
Wonderful movie!
"I loved this movie from beginning to end. The plot brings the viewers into the story and you can feel the emotions of the actors. The cast was wonderful. In my opinion the actress that plays Samantha is one of the most beautiful and talented young women that is in film today. This is a must see movie."

I went to see this movie last night
"I went to see this movie last night. I absolutely loved it. If there is such a thing as a perfect movie, I believe this is it. The acting, cinematography, directing, story--everything well done. Touching, educational, inspirational. Taught lessons on so many levels. Bravo to both Denzels, Junee and Nate Parker. Bravo to Melvyn Tolson for educating us even from the grave."

So glad I took my kids...
"We went to the theatre to see another (sold out) movie, and decided last minute to see this one. I am so glad that we did. We had our 13 and 10 year old girls with us and this movie was so different than the stupid, shallow duds that they usually see. Before the movie started they were protesting this movie and quickly got into it. It was so inspirational, educational and thought provoking. It actually opened their minds to see other movies that are deeper than the typical Hilary Duff flick.."
Make it a TV Series
"This is truely the time to use a movie as a teaching tool, this movie is the one, it moves you to want to know more and understand what it is that you can do to continue to make a difference in the world that will be our childrens. I pray that the entire world see this movie,,,,especially the young high school and college kids."
A Show above Others
"This presentation is both shocking and horrifying to those of us who never realized the depth of prejudice and racial hatred in the southwest United States. It is apalling that only being black could be cause for physical torture and even death. I now realize how sheltered a life I have lived, and could never relate to the racial atrocities because I have never been exposed to them. I certainly hope that such atrocities are a dreadful relic of the past."
