Chicago Sun-Times | Roger Ebert

Campbell's performance is carnal, verbally facile, physically uninhibited and charged with intelligence.

Another art film that's more pretentious than it needs to be.

A ripe psychosexual compost heap of a drama that emits a provocative scent of rot and nonsense.

Campbell's performance is attuned to the extremes of unnerving calm and intensely erotic; unlike the pic, she pulls it off.

A slim idea for a pulp-fiction short story padded out to 81 minutes with random encounters and celebrity sightings.

With its improvisatory tone and loose, rambling structure, which often approaches a total breakdown of coherence, the story takes about half an hour to emerge.

Beyond the "hell hath no fury" angle that overlays the story, When Will I Be Loved amounts to nothing more than another repository for kinky Tobackisms: Seen one (and the one to see remains 1978's Fingers), seen them all.

The structure of When Will I Be Loved seems deliberately flimsy, and many of its details don't add up. But as a contemporary fable about getting and spending in the new gilded age, When Will I Be Loved strikes a chord that echoes.

Collapses under the weight of its own pretension, a victim of misogyny trying to pass itself off as female sexual empowerment.

Most atrocious movies build into their badness, as lacks of talent, ideas, self-confidence, or a total hatred of an audience, are revealed. This one gets it out of the way up front and never looks back.

Dominic Chianese Amazing

"Dominic Chianese is a riveting actor that explodes on screen that shows his true potential as being an actor who can leap from the small scree to the large screen without missing a beat. Mr. Chianese's star rises to new heights in his portrayal of the Count where you find yourself locked into his eyes as he goes from light comedy to sinister actions. Without Mr. Chianese in the movie I might have lost interest in watching the other actors perform."

F-

"I have just one question: in a town full of brilliance and potential, with oodles of scripts crossing producers' desks every day, how did this dis-jointed, unlikeable, incomprehensible movie EVER get made? There was ONE scene in which Neve Campbell was even vaguely interesting. The rest of the movie left me wondering about the characters' motivations, the plot, searching for anything to hang on to. I walked out -- it was that bad. Before the movie started, the film house manager warned us that there would be no refunds. Now I know why. Dear Collins Road Theatre: I want my four dollars back!!"

Neve Campbell is brilliant.

"James Toback's WHEN WILL I BE LOVED gives Neve Campbell a great opportunity to play a well-rounded, interesting, sexual character. The movie belongs to her. If the plot of the film -presented when the film settles down from its really long first act to show us the story - were as complicated as Campbell's character Vera is, then this would be a great film. As it is, it's a good movie with a great performance in it, which makes it worth watching. The film features a con in it, I suppose, but it is not your typical, twisted con movie. But WHEN WILL I BE LOVED is more interested in conversation and character, thankfully. Vera is a great character, and others in the film just revolve around her. She overshadows everyone else, so I didn't end up as invested in the plot. Additionally, the opening act of the film, which follows four or five separate points of view and features cameos from Mike Tyson and Lori Singer, doesn't prepare you at all for the mood the rest of the film is going to take on. When it does get to the plot, it becomes a great, interesting movie about three characters. If only there had been more of that. But so little happens in the actual plot that, when the movie ends, it feels a bit disappointing."

Student movie and WEAK @ that

"Amateuristic dialogue / scenes with annoying cut aways and back again which didn't even make sense / a story that wouldn't even entertain a lone stranded person on a 10'x10' island / Extremely weak package / The sound was defective as well and I don't think it was from the theatre."
